– Dr. Venkataswamy, founder of Aravind Eye Hospital in IndiaThis is an ophthalmologist who realized the vision to apply McDonald’s model of efficiency to eye care by founding one of the most profitable eye hospitals in the world that restores vision to 1.4 million people a year. Its an amazing story from a book I am reading these days called “Fortune at the Bottom” by CK Prahalad which I highly recommend. It really debunks the idea that caring cannot also be profitable or that innovation in business models and high technology should be reserved for developed markets.
